Many of you have already heard that two of our friends and members of the theatre community, Andrew Voss and Jason Waszak, were both stabbed in a senseless act of violence early Sunday afternoon. Jason was released from the hospital yesterday with stitches and continues to recover from home. Andrew remains in the ICU and has recently been upgraded to “satisfactory” condition. He is alert and breathing on his own, hopefully on the road to a strong and speedy recovery.
There will be an article in the Journal tomorrow regarding the incident. Please to refer to it if you want any more details about the actual episode.
As a result of the incident, we have cancelled our run of RED LIGHT WINTER, which Andrew was performing in (and doing a damn good job I might add). Refunds will be offered to those who purchased tickets for the cancelled performances, or they may donate that money towards our two friend’s costly hospital bills.
I’m not sure whether or not either of them have health insurance, but their hospital bills will be astronomical. They need every possible iota of help we can give them.
On Friday January 29th we will hold a fundraiser / community gathering to help raise money for Andrew and Jason at the Alchemist Theatre (2569 S. Kinnickinnic, Milwaukee, WI), starting at 7:00pm. Bo Johnson & friends will be providing some music throughout the evening, while the improv troupe Meanwhile will perform in the theatre at 10:00pm. Details on the gathering will be forthcoming, but hopefully it is an opportunity to support our friends and make something positive out of a horrific situation.
If you are unable to make it, I have two ways you can still help:
- The Alchemist Theatre has provided an opportunity to accept donations online. Please follow the following link to make a contributions: http://www.alchemisttheatre.com/index.cfm?fuse=viewShow&showId=110- Those wanting to send checks, an account has been created in Raeleen McMillion’s name through Guaranty Bank with an official nickname: Actor Aid. Please contact her for more details: email@example.com.
Thank you for all your help in advance. The outpouring of support in the community already is amazing and truly awe-inspiring. Much healing has yet to be done. Hopefully we can get that started quickly and relieve some of the financial burden off of Andrew and Jason’s shoulders.
Please continue to send your love and prayers to Andrew and Jason, as well as their families. This has been a very scary ordeal for everyone involved, and I think we can all use some strong people to lean on.
