Sanford Meisner, one of the greatest and most prolific acting teachers in American theater, created a step-by- step series of improvisational exercises that train actors into being thoroughly responsive, emotionally alive, spontaneous and absolutely grounded in the reality of what is happening at any given moment. In this unique 1-day workshop, certified instructor Andrew Gallant will utilize Meisner’s foundational exercises to get you out of your head and into being truly present in the world around you and to the people with whom you share it.

Sanford Meisner Bio:
Sanford Meisner, or Sandy as his students called him, is one of the most influential figures in the history of American theater. He spent his early career as an actor and founding member of the legendary Group Theatre where he worked with greats like Harold Clurman, Elia Kazan, Stella Adler, Lee J. Cobb, Lee Strasberg, and many others. Later in life, Meisner developed a systematic approach to actor training and taught it to thousands of students. Among those who studied with Meisner include David Mamet, James Caan, Brad Dourif, Jeff Goldblum, Sydney Pollack, Grace Kelly, Peter Falk, Steve, McQueen, Tony Randall, John Voight, Bob Fosse, Diane Keaton and Arthur Miller.
Andrew Gallant Bio:
Andrew holds a BA in Theater from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a postgraduate Diploma from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and an MFA in Acting from DePaul University’s Theatre School. He became a fully certified instructor of the Meisner Approach by completing the two-year certification process taught by actor, author and master Meisner teacher Larry Silverberg. In August of 2008, Andrew co-founded Green Shirt Studio with his wife, Sommer Austin. Along with teaching and coaching at Green Shirt, he is an adjunct professor at The Theatre School at DePaul University. Andrew is also the Artistic Director of The Agency Theater Collective in Chicago. He regularly writes and performs at their weekly show, No Shame Theatre and, in the Agency’s inaugural season, Andrew directed Clifford Odets’ Paradise Lost and Copi’s Four Twins. When not working on the Agency or Green Shirt, Andrew continues to act and direct professionally with various venues and is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association.
