Ten Chimneys Foundation’s

Half-Day Shakespeare Master Class

with Renowned Shakespearean, Barry Edelstein

Wednesday, July 14, 2010 – 10am to 1pm

(with hosted luncheon to follow)

Equity Wisconsin actors with 10 years or more of professional experience are invited to a half-day master class with Barry Edelstein. Widely respected as one of the leading Shakespeareans in the United States, Mr. Edelstein is the director of The Public Theater’s Shakespeare Initiative, overseeing all Shakespearean production at the theater (including Shakespeare in the Park), as well as The Public’s extensive educational, community outreach, and artist-training programs.

There is no limit to the number of actors who may attend this half-day master class. Through a “lottery,” 6-8 actors will be selected to work with Mr. Edelstein one-on-one, exploring some of the fundamental principles of how Shakespeare’s text guides actors to clarity and emotional truth.  (Mr. Edelstein will supply a collection of texts for actors to review before the half-day master class.) Actors who are not selected through the lottery, in addition to the opportunity to observe the master class, will participate in brief group exercises that demonstrate specific techniques in action.

This no-fee program is a component of the week-long Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Program, a national program to serve American theatre, welcoming actors from The Guthrie, Cal Shakes, The Goodman, Milwaukee Rep, Shakespeare Theatre Co. (D.C.), Trinity Rep, The Old Globe, The Wilma (Philadelphia), and Chicago Shakes. (For more information on Mr. Edelstein or the full Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Program, visit www.tenchimneys.org/fellowship) Following the half-day master class (10am–1pm), all participating actors are invited to join Mr. Edelstein and the nine Lunt-Fontanne Fellows (representing nine of the top theatres from across the country) for lunch on the outdoor terrace of the Lunt-Fontanne Program Center.

If you are interested in participating in this master class opportunity, please complete and return the attached application – along with a current résumé (and headshot, if available), no later than Wednesday, June 30th.
