Falls Patio creates “enchanted evening” of Rodgers & Hammerstein classics

Falls Patio Players will return to the classics this fall, in Some Enchanted Evening: The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein.  This first offering of the mainstage season is a fitting tribute to the legendary music and lyrics team that defined Broadway’s golden age.  Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) and Oscar Hammerstein II (1895-1960) were responsible for re-working the structure of the musical theatre genre, creating shows that contained thought-provoking plots and in which all the aspects of the play – dance, song, and drama – were combined in an integrated whole.

Featuring songs from such memorable shows as Allegro, Carousel, Cinderella, Flower Drum Song, The King and I, Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, and State Fair, this musical revue contains a veritable parade of hits.  Here, the songs are the stars, placing the tunes we know and love in a unique theatrical setting, first “backstage” where the performers meet to rehearse, and then “onstage” in an elegant concert.  Though the songs may be pulled out of their respective shows, they still indeed tell stories, and an “enchanted evening” is guaranteed.

Alan Piotrowicz, resident lighting designer for Falls Patio since 2009, will be providing both stage direction and lighting design for this production.  Expressmilwaukee.com recently reviewed Alan’s work for Pink Banana Theatre, saying, “He’s working with some really good talent here, but there’s no questioning that the talent is really well directed.”  He teams up with music director Brian Myers, whom Falls audiences may remember from Quilters last season.  Brian, too, has received accolades from ExpressMilwaukee.com, describing his performance at the Milwaukee Comedy Fest as “absurdly charismatic” and “a very, very classy bit of piano work that is cleverly wrapped around some interesting wit.”

Onstage, the show features the remarkable returning talents of Nadine Borngraeber (Quilters, Plaza Suite, Pajama Game), Adam Moreno (Grease, Shorewood’s Producers), Jenna Reetz (Annie, South Pacific, Joseph…), and Wendy Rightler (Quilters, UW-Waukesha’s Urinetown).  Newcomers include Liz Shipe (In Tandem’s Art of Murder, West Allis Players’ Beauty in the Beast) and Isaac Brotzman in his stage debut.

One weekend only in October, performances will be held on Friday the 7th at 7:30 PM, Saturday the 8th at 3:00 and 7:30 PM, and Sunday the 9th at 2:00 PM on the stage of the Menomonee Falls North Junior High Auditorium (N88 W16750 Garfield Drive).  Tickets are $15.00, with $2.00 off for students and seniors.  Tickets can be purchased by calling (262) 255-8372 or by visiting our website at http://www.fallspatioplayers.com.  Hope to see you at the theatre!
