Dear Skylight Friends,

In January of 2011, Bill Theisen announced he would step down as Skylight’s artistic director at the end of the 2012-13 season. Following that decision, the Skylight Board of Directors began a search for his successor. Although he was not a member of the search committee, Bill was extremely helpful at the start of the process by assisting with the initial review and assessment of applications and then served as an advisor as the process continued. Skylight’s reputation in the world of opera and music theatre attracted more than 60 submissions from both national and international candidates, providing an extremely talented pool of individuals to consider. After a year-long process, countless phone interviews, in-person interviews and on-site visits, one candidate rose to the top.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of Skylight Music Theatre, I am extremely excited to announce that we have chosen Viswa Subbaraman to be our next artistic director.

Viswa, currently artistic director and founder of Houston’s innovative Opera Vista, brings a new level of dynamic energy to Skylight and Milwaukee. He combines international experience and artistic vision with a true love of the full spectrum of musical theatre. Viswa represents a new way of thinking – a new vision – that will build upon the incredible work Bill Theisen has created over the past nine seasons.

To have someone with Viswa’s worldwide experience, impressive credentials and dynamic energy shaping Skylight’s vision is very exciting for our company and our community. I hope you will join me and the entire Skylight team in enthusiastically welcoming Viswa Subbaraman to Skylight and Milwaukee. We look forward to announcing his first season, the 2013-14 season, next spring.

I would also like to invite you to visit our website for message from Viswa himself.
