Milwaukee Carries

Devised by Fly Steffens, Jessica Kaminski, and Neal Easterling

March 2015

A cross-disciplinary collaboration reveals what Milwaukee carries, when director Neal Easterling, photographer Jessica Kaminski, and playwright Fly Steffens tell the stories that emerge when people across the city answer the question, “What are you carrying?” Contents of pockets, purses, bags, and briefcases will be transformed into words, images, and movement, offering an intimate perspective on our community.

When:            DECEMEBER 13TH, 2014     3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Where:          UWM, Mitchell Hall, Rm 375

                         2400 E. Kenwood Blvd.
Milwaukee, WI 53211

Needed:        5 Performers

This is a devised work, and as such, the creative team is looking for well-rounded artists to collaborate on the creation of this piece. We are looking for performing artists with a wide range of skills – movement, dance, music making, acting, improvisation, and others we have not even considered.

What to Prepare:

Monologues are not needed.  You will be given a short movement sequence at the audition site, and one week prior (Dec. 6th)  you will also receive two lines of text via email to memorize.  These two items will be the material from which we will create mini-devised scenes at auditions.  Please bring a headshot and resume to auditions.

Group Calls:

We ask you to be prepared to begin auditions on each half hour (i.e.  If you sign up for a slot at 3:45 PM, your audition time will acutally begin at 3:30 PM.) You will be paired with another performer at that time, with whom you will be asked to perform a basic devising exercise.  We are not expecting finished or complete performances.  We want to engage in a process with you while in the audition room.
