THE BARD & BOURBON THEATRE COMPANY

PRESENTS TWELFTH NIGHT (DRUNK)

Production Dates: Aug 31-Sep 3, 2017 at 7:30pm

This Labor Day weekend, the Tenth Street Theatre becomes a vaudeville stage for Bard & Bourbon’s Twelfth Night (drunk). Twelfth Night is the story of twin siblings separated by a shipwreck in a foreign land. What follows is a wild mix of love triangles, mistaken identities, and general foolery. In this production, however, events are further complicated by the fact that two of the actors each night will be under the influence of quite a bit of whiskey. Anything can happen and it’s up to the sober actors to hilariously try to keep the show on the rails.

Founded in late 2014, Bard & Bourbon is one of several drunk Shakespeare companies that have sprung up over the last decade, including LA’s Shotspeare, New York’s Drunk Shakespeare Society, and Milwaukee’s fellow drunk company, Boozy Bard. “We take the most traditional approach of any drunk company I know,” says director and

Bard & Bourbon founder Katie Merriman. “For us, the Shakespeare comes first and we just trust the alcohol to take care of itself. Our goal is always to produce a genuinely good play with a bit of loving irreverence thrown in.”

Twelfth Night Director Dylan K. Sladky says “As one of Shakespeare’s funniest and lighthearted love stories, Twelfth Night (or What You Will) is a fantastic romp about the absurdities of love in all its forms. Every character has an open world in-front of them, just out of their grasp, and we get to see them set upon each other in hopes of reaching that which they desire most. With this in mind, I looked to old-school backyard vaudeville for inspiration. Vaudeville was for all manner of people, and Shakespeare’s plays share this quality. The over-the-top nature of Twelfth Night and its characters, paired with it’s subtle moments of bittersweet hope of a better tomorrow, makes the 1930’s dust bowlera a striking concept to play in, and has proven to be a truly fun experience.”

Twelfth Night (drunk) runs August 31-Sept 3 at the Tenth Street Theatre, 628 N 10th St, Milwaukee, WI 53233. All performances at 7:30pm.
