A cult novel, a classic film, a quintessential hit of the ’60s, Benjamin’s disastrous sexual odyssey is brought vividly to life in the After Sunset Studio production.

Character Descriptions

Male Characters

BENJAMIN (ages 20 – 28): Once the ideal student and son, and now a recent college graduate, he keeps hearing he has his whole life ahead of him.  Disillusioned with the idea that everything he’s worked for is without meaning or purpose, he desperately seeks a future that is different from the “American Dream” he grew up in.  This is a largely dramatic role with biting, understated, dry humor.

MR. ROBINSON (ages 40 – 60): Mrs. Robinson’s husband, Elaine’s father, and long-time business partner of Mr. Braddock.  He considers Benjamin the son he never had.  He wants Benjamin to take a romantic interest in Elaine to solidify the business relationship and friendship between the two families; both comedic and dramatic chops needed.

MR. BRADDOCK (ages 40 – 60): Benjamin’s father and long-time business partner of Mr. Robinson; immensely proud of his wealth and family, he has big dreams and aspirations for Ben; he tries to support and understand his son despite his bizarre behavior, only to push Ben further away.  Both comedic and dramatic chops needed.

HOTEL CLERK (ages 25+): Male or Female

PSYCHIATRIST (ages 35+): Male or Female

PRIEST (ages 35+): Male or Female

Female Characters

MRS. ROBINSON (ages 40 – 50): Seductive, manipulative, sexy, and destructive; she finds an emotionally vulnerable Benjamin and manipulates and seduces him into an affair.  She does not seem to have any other interest or concern for Benjamin until the notion of his dating her daughter reaches her.

ELAINE (ages 20 – 28): Daughter of Mrs. and Mr. Robinson.  Her bright, seemingly naive and optimistic charm casts a stark contrast to Benjamin’s somber tone.  She wishes to lead a normal and responsible life despite her emotionally fragile disposition caused by the long-past-deteriorated marriage between her parents and destructive nature of her mother.

MRS. BRADDOCK (ages 40 – 50): Benjamin’s mother; almost entirely out-of-the-loop, she desperately tries to understand her son, often by asking the most direct and awkward questions; this is a largely comedic role.

STRIPPER (ages 25 – 40): Speaking role that may also be doubled.

HOTEL CLERK (ages 25+): Male or Female

PSYCHIATRIST (ages 35+): Male or Female

PRIEST (ages 35+): Male or Female
