One of the more interesting plays I’ve ever had the opportunity to work on is opening this evening at the 53212 Presents space in Riverwest. You are going to want to see this one. And you’re going to say, “I’m going to see this one, but not this weekend.” And then next weekend you’re going to say, “I’m going to see this one, but not this weekend.” And then the following week you’re going to see the show on it’s last performance or two, and you are going to tell your frineds, “You’ve got to see this show!”, but it will be too late.

Of course you could buck this lame trend that exists in Milwaukee, and urge your friends to see it after you do on opening night, when your urging will do no end of good. This is a fine story, well produced and acted. Support local theatre!

the nether

Much like an episode of the hit series “Black Mirror” (and one of the most talked-about new plays in recent years), popular female playwright Jennifer Haley blurs reality into a virtual realm known as The Nether. This new form of the internet allows anyone to access a vast network of virtual reality realms. Users may log in, choose an identity, and indulge in any desire. Detective Morris interrogates members of a realm known as The Hideaway, digging into the emotional consequences of its players entertaining the darkest of wants. The Nether is both twisting crime drama and haunting sci-fi thriller. The play is for mature audiences only as it deals with pedophilia, sexual violence, suicide, and other very adult themes.

“The Nether” will be performed at 53212 Presents, a new arts venue dedicated to providing access to affordable rehearsal and performance space in the heart of Riverwest.
